Matthew Tipton said “After the news that Chris Wright has left us its my great pleasure to announce that Andy Hunter is joining the back room team. Andy is someone I’ve known for many years and I fully trust him as a person firstly which is massively important to me. Andy also has tremendous football knowledge and is a very good coach who, as he was as a player, is driven by success. Both David & myself worked as part of Andy’s backroom team with the County Antrim Milk Cup squad which won the competition 3 years ago. During that period I said that if I got a job as manager I would definitely want Andy working with me, and I’ve finally managed to get him in which has delighted me no end. I’m sure Andy’s presence on the training pitch and touchline will help us improve even further in our target of reaching where we want to get to.”

Chris Wright Moves to Dungannon Swifts

Portadown FC can confirm that Chris Wright has left his position as first team coach to take up the Assistant Manager role at Dungannon Swifts.

Matthew Tipton said “It’s with great sadness that we see Chris leaving us at first team level. Chris has been alongside myself since I stepped into management, so it will be strange to not have him on the training pitch going forward. However, the opportunity to move into an assistant manager role doesn’t come along too often in football and as I told Chris football is a game where you have to take opportunities to further your career when they arise. He goes with my blessings and in the knowledge that he will always be made welcome at Shamrock Park as first and foremost he is a Portadown fan.”

Transfer Deadline Day News

OUT: Portadown FC can confirm Liam McKenna has gone on loan to Knockbreda until January.  Matthew Tipton commented "Liam hasn’t really got going as we would have liked so far this season with him picking up a slight hamstring strain away from us & then going away on holiday close to the season start meant he was behind the other players in terms of fitness & sharpness. We believe him going to Knockbreda will help kick start his season & give him competitive minutes to be ready to come back to us for the run in to the end of the season."

IN: We are delighted to announce that we are bringing in Connal Morrison. Connal was most recently at AFC Bournemouth in England & comes to us highly recommended from their coaches & staff. Connal has now moved to Northern Ireland with his family so we leapt at the chance to bring him in to the club. Connal’s a left sided player who we feel will give great competition to the squad going forward once his international clearance is through.

Declan Dunne Signing Announced

Portadown Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of the Northern Ireland U-19 goalkeeper from Cliftonville on loan until January.

Manager Matthew Tipton has said;

Delighted to announce the signing of Declan Dunne. It’s probably the worst kept secret in football that we were signing Declan but the move was held up due to interest shown in Declan from an English Premier League team last week before their transfer window closed.

I think that fact shows how highly rated Declan is & it was why last week I was prepared to let things pan out the way they did with us signing & playing David as cover for one night whilst we waited on the English transfer window to close on Thursday at 5pm which was too late for Declan to be registered to play against Loughgall.

Now that we finally have all the paperwork completed it’s my great pleasure to introduce him to our fans. Declan has great pedigree & is highly rated at Cliftonville. I would like to place on record my thanks to Barry Gray, Gerard Lawlor & George Walsh who have all been first class professionals throughout the whole process & without their due diligence to do the right thing we might never have got the deal done.

Out: Portadown FC can confirm that Ruadhan McKenna has left the club to join Cliftonville FC.  We wish Ruadhan every success for the future and thank him for his efforts during his time at the club.
