Title Decider Goes right to the Wire Tonight's 2-1 victory by Donegal Celtic over Ballymoney Utd creates a winner takes all scenario on Saturday. Portadown go into the game with a 1 point advantage needing at least a draw to secure the league title and automatic promotion to the Premier League next season. Donegal Celtic need to win to leapfrog the Ports and claim the title and promotion. The Ports are already guaranteed a 2-legged play off against Dungannon should they lose on Saturday, whilst Donegal Celtic will be keeping a close eye on Loughgall's result which could them down to 3rd place and out of the promotion picture for another season. The Ports go into the game on a 13 game unbeaten run in the Championship which stretches back as far as January 2009. So far this month we've scored 18 goals and only conceded 1 in reply. Saturday will be a tough encounter with Donegal Celtic who are also currently on an impressive run of results. Its sure to be a great game and not one for the feint hearted. |

Portadown Youth reach Final Portadown Youth U13 team has become the first Portadown team to make it through to the final of the Lisburn League Cup. They saw off Greenisland in the Semi Finals with three late goals to win 3-0. The young Ports scored through Burns, Richardson and McDonagh who made no mistake with a screamer to seal the tie and place a Portadown team into the final in their tenth anniversary year. The final is to take place on the morning of Saturday 2nd May, the same day as the Ports final fixture against Donegal Celtic, so why not make it a big day out for the Portadown supporters cheer on the U13's in the morning and then on to Suffolk Road to cheer on the Ports and hopefully there will be two reasons to celebrate that day. Full details of the kick off time will be posted on the youth website as soon as they become available. |

3rd April 2009 Ports draw with Ballymena Portadown and Ballymena played out a 0-0 draw at Shamrock Park this evening in a friendly match. The Ports took the opportunity to test the fitness of a number of key players in preparation for the closing round of matches in the Ladbrokes.com Championship which is reaching a crucial stage of the season. The Ports are under pressure to win all their remaining 7 fixtures in order to qualify for automatic promotion back to the Premier League including a potential decider against Donegal Celtic on the very last day of the season. With the Ports currently lying second in the table 2 points behind Loughgall, and with a game in hand, the league title is still very much up for grabs, but as they've learnt to their cost this season, you can take nothing for granted and every point has to be battled for. All in all its sure to be an exciting month of football and certainly not for the faint hearted. |

The new Met Steel stand was almost full to capacity and the crowd were well entertained with a very competitive match in which Linfield's Robert Garrett was outstanding. Ports at Home to Crusaders in Quarter Finals of JJB Irish Cup Following today's impressive victory over local rivals Loughgall, the Ports have been rewarded with a quarter final tie at home against Premiership team Crusaders. Ports boss Ronnie McFall will relish the opportunity to put another Premiership side to the sword and none harder than Crusaders who under Stephen Baxter have become a formidable outfit. The tie will be played on Sat 7th March 2009 which means the Championship fixture against Tobermore Utd will have to be re-scheduled. Its another fixture headache for the Ports management, but reflects the successful run the team is experiencing this year. |

Ports Board Meets with Sports Minister Portadown Chairman Roy McMahon brought Sports Minister Gregory Campbell and local Upper Bann MP David Simpson up to date on the ground development programme at Shamrock Park. The minister was clearly impressed with the new Met Steel Stand and the Ports plans for the future development of Shamrock Park. With the demise of the international sports stadium project at the Maze, there's a golden opportunity to bring much needed funding to local football which has seen little or no investment in facilities over half a century. Mr Campbell no doubt will have left Shamrock Park with a clearer understanding of the needs of the club and the local community. Here's hoping he can help deliver and take Shamrock Park to the next level. |

There's a buzz of excitement around Portadown these days, something that hasn't been seen since the glory days of Cowan, Fraser and co. Convery to miss CIS Match against Blues Ports Captain John Convery is likely to miss next Wednesday's second leg of the Co-Operative Insurance Cup after picking up an automatic 1 match suspension for incurring 5 yellow cards this season. Its cruel luck for big John and a major blow to the team who go into the game with a 2 goal advantage following the first leg 2-nil result at Shamrock Park earlier in the month. However, as the team showed against Cliftonville in the last round, the current crop of players are very adaptable and more than capable of slotting into differing roles as the need arises. The incentive of getting through to the semi-final awaits the players and the potential of getting all the way to the final is well within touching distance. |

Portadown U18's 4-0 Cookstown Youth Portadown Thirds took the field this morning and quickly set about getting on the scoresheet but they were left frustrated until the 22nd minute when Mark Dane nipped in behind the defence from a precision ball from 'keeper Andy Wright (pictured), the striker nicked the ball past the 'keeper to send the young reds ahead. The Ports didn't stop there and got their second straight from kick off when Ryan Winter and Dane exchanged some neat passes on the right wing and Dane sent in a deep cross for the on rushing Neil Surplus to score his first in Ports colours. The third wasn't far away when Winter nipped in front of his marker to head the ball past the stranded 'keeper. Three goals within 10 minutes had the Ports cruising. Matt Paget at Centre Back and James Sergeant made sure Cookstown could not get many chances on goal with some hard tackles and controlled passes. 'Keeper Wright came to the rescue in the second half when he tipped the ball round the post after a dangerous free kick in the second half. The 4th goal looked like coming on many occasions with Serpliss causing the visiting defence endless problems but the Ports had to wait until the 83rd minute when substitute Matt Hollis thumped the ball home from a Dane lay off, after starting the move outside the box. Ports U18's: Andy Wright, Chris Coleman, Conor Coleman, Chris Elliott, Mat Paget, Scott Herron, Matt Brown, James Sergeant, Ryan Winter, Mark Dane, Neil Serpliss. Subs: Andy Newell, Matthew Hollis, Neil McKee, Jamie Linton |

Ports boss Ronnie McFall knows this is a crucial game, if the Ports are to have any realistic hope of taking at least 4th place in the Carnegie Premier League so he may be forced to bring in some of the young guns from the reserves and give them a chance to show what they're capable off. |

McCutcheon Out for Rest of Season Ports Scottish striker Gary McCutcheon has been ruled out for the rest of this season with a ruptured medial and lateral ligament in his left knee. Its a massive blow to the popular Scot who was stretchered off towards the end of the Irish Cup match against Cliftonville on Saturday. The injury happened following a crude challenge from behind by Cliftonville's George McMullan and it was clear from his immediate reaction that McCutcheon had been badly hurt. Gary has to undergo further tests to assess if there has been any damage to his cruciate ligament. If the tests show that the cruciate has been damaged, he could be out of action for considerably longer. All associated with the club wish Gary a full and speedy recovery. |

Ports v Ballymena Tonight's fixture against Ballymena Utd represents another crucial battle as the Ports attempt to bounce back from their narrow defeat against Cliftonville on Tuesday evening. With Ballymena only 3 points ahead of Portadown in the league standings, the incentive is there for the team to leapfrog above the "light blues" into 5th position, albeit on goal difference only. Despite the wintry conditions elsewhere in the country, there's been bright sunshine throughout the day in Portadown, and unless there's a dramatic change in the weather the match will go ahead as scheduled at 7:45pm. (updated at 4:45pm friday 1-2-08) |

Brave Chelsea Guest of Portadown FC Eleven year old Chelsea Dougan from Markethill, suffered horrific injuries after an accident involving a lawnmower on which she was riding with a family member back in September 2007. The Ulster Scots Highland Dancing star underwent surgery to have both legs amputated beneath the knee, shortly after the accident. Amazingly Chelsea has shown tremendous resilience and has not let the accident get her down. On Saturday she was a guest of Portadown FC, with her family, at the Carnegie Irish Premier League match against Linfield. A big fan of the Belfast side, Chelsea was delighted to meet her heroes, and posed for photos with Linfield striker Glenn Ferguson, manager David Jeffrey and Ports midfielder Peter Kennedy. Portadown FC were delighted to make this possible for Chelsea and wish her every success on the road to recovery. |

Ports Submit Official Complaint re Courtney A spokesman for the club has today confirmed that an strongly worded complaint is to be made to IFA Chief Executive, Howard Wells, about the handling of incidents by referee Mark Courtney during last weeks fixture against Glentoran at Shamrock Park. The complaint specifically relates to the incident involving Ports striker Andy Smith and Glentoran defenders Colin Nixon and Paul Leeman in which Smith was red-carded and Leeman was only shown a yellow card. Both video and photographic evidence has been obtained which the club feels shows inconsistencies in the way the matter was handled. |

Ports Squad Resembles Episode from "Casualty" The Ports ability to cope under extreme pressure is being sorely tested with no less than eight first team players missing for the Coleraine fixture from the squad which started the season in August. With Wes Boyle, Jamie Marks out indefinitely, the latest blow came with the news that talented young winger Ally Teggart is likely to be sidelined for several weeks with ankle ligament damage sustained against Institute on Friday evening. With Kevin Braniff suspended and Richard Clarke still on vacation, Ports boss Ronnie McFall will be keeping his fingers crossed that Marc McCann can recover from a groin strain which has kept him out of the Ports last two fixtures. As if problems couldn't get any worse, Ports skipper John Convery is also rated extremely doubtful with an ankle injury which forced him to sit out the Institute game. With the difficult Christmas period approaching, Ronnie McFall will be keeping his fingers crossed that he doesn't lose any more of his already severely depleted squad over the coming weeks. |

Ports Suffer Double Blow Portadown were dealt a double blow this week with the news that Conor Hagan has left the country for a new life in England. With Michael Collins' departure to Newry, and the ongoing absence of Wesley Boyle, Marc McCann and Jamie Marks due to injury, the Ports midfield is extremely light at present. |
