Sat 26th March 2008, 3:00pm The Oval, Belfast

This Saturday is the final round of this seasons matches in the Carnegie Premier League. A tough visit to the Oval is not a fixture the team will particularly relish, after last weeks disappointment against Newry City.   Despite leading the match for most of the first half after an early goal, and controlling most of the game, the lads let the match slip away with a mixture of poor finishing and defensive errors which yet again cost us all three points.

On to the Oval though, hoping to finish the league with some sort of pride, something that appears to be missing from the players in red these days. Its up to the players to restore some pride in the jersey.  They owe it to themselves and the supporters who follow them week in week out, the length and bredth of the country.  Lets hope they manage to restore some of it this Saturday to end the season on a high.

In our match earlier in the season against Glentoran at Shamrock Park we were on the receiving end of a 2-0 defeat in a match full of controversy following the dismissal of Ports striker Andy Smith who was sent off early on in an incident involving at least two Glentoran players who somehow managed to escape the referees red card. The Ports struggled to find any rhythm with 10 men and the Glens eventually scored a couple of soft goals to send their supporters home happy.

In this fixture at the Oval last season we managed a fantastic 3-2 win, McCutcheon getting a brace and Allan Smart grabbing the late winner, a good result which would be very welcome this time around again. Our record at the Oval this last number of years hasn’t been bad at all, with a few exceptions. Hopefully we can come away with another good result this time and we can come away satisfied with the performance for the first time in a while

Glentoran of course still have a very outside chance of winning the league, however they must hope Linfield lose and they hammer us by a number of goals, so we must be aware of this and that they will come at us straight away looking to score. Our defence must be strong and our counter attacking good when we get the chance.
