Portadown 2 Carrick Rangers 1
Portadown youth players answered the managers call today and, when all looked lost, they popped up with the impossible in the dying minutes of this game to send the manager and fans home singing their praises. Carrick looked destined to confirm the Ports drop to the Championship with only 6 minutes of normal time left they led 1-nil with a Murray penalty the only difference between the two sides. Then Currie threw caution to the wind and brought on Jake Richardson, Nedas Macaulaitis and Callum Ferris and things began to change immediately. The aggression and power of Ferris and Macaulaitis disrupted the otherwise composed Carrick backline who immediately conceded a penalty which Henderson converted. Then as the Ports pressed through everyone forward in search of the winner, young Luke Wilson, who was outstanding all afternoon in midfield, popped up to cooly lift the ball over the diving Neeson to score. A wonderful goal to cap a man of the match performance from the 16 year old.
