Ports Issue Statement re Crusaders League Match – 25th February 2017
Portadown Football Club are disappointed to learn that Crusaders FC have appealed to the NIFL in regards to the upcoming match between the two clubs at Shamrock Park.
Portadown applied for a late kick off in line with rule 16G of the NIFL regulations and had that application approved by the NIFL. With this approval in hand, Portadown’s Supporters’ Society have put in place plans for a supporters’ event on the day in conjunction with the new Kick Off time.
Crusaders subsequently came to Portadown requesting the kick off time be returned to 1500 as one of their players had already booked flights to leave Belfast for England that evening – due to the supporters’ initiative, Portadown were unable to alter their plans.
This appeal to the NIFL would appear to have no foundation in the rules and now puts the plans and money of Portadown’s Supporters’ Society at risk. At a time when everyone should be trying to encourage more supporters to get involved with the NIFL, we would ask Crusaders FC to withdraw their appeal as soon as possible and allow the PSS to get on with their plans for the day.
