Portadown produced some of the finest football seen at Shamrock Park for years as they completely dominated Coleraine for the first 72 minutes of this game but still managed to end up as the losing side. The Ports looked home and dry after goals from McNeill, Braniff and Mackle had given them a comfortable 3-nil lead. But Coleraine dug deep, and with the Ports midfielders tiring from the first half exhertions, they capitalised on the extra space and punished the home team with a four goal blitz to snatch the 3 points in the final minutes of this game.
A superb game for the neutral, but the home support will have gone home frustrated after seeing their side throw away what looked like a safe 3 goal lead. The signs are promising for this new look Ports team this season, but they’ve learn’t the hard way that they’re going to have to battle for the full 90 minutes to make sure of the points.
