Ports 2 Newry City 2
Newry City were the visitors to Shamrock today for the final scheduled pre-season friendly. Despite their much heralded off-field problems, Newry proved a very credible and competitive opponent and gave the Ports a tough workout ahead of next Saturdays league opener against Lisburn Distillery. Newry opened the scoring after 5 mins after taking advantage of some slack defending by the Ports. Sean Mackle equalised after 20 mins from close in after excellent work by Ryan Burns. Minutes later Newry had another goal ruled out for an infringement, but they made no mistake when they grabbed their second just after the half hour mark.
Ryan Burns capped another impressive display by scoring the equaliser early in the second half as the Ports took greater control of the game.
