Glentoran 2 Portadown 2

Glentoran–Portadown

2 - 2

A frustrating afternoon for Portadown saw them drop 2 points on league leaders Linfield after Glentoran snatched a late equaliser in injury time to take a share of the spoils in East Belfast.  The Ports lost Sean Mackle and Matthew Tipton to injury early in the match with Conor McCluskey and Richard Clarke deputising.  The Glens had the opportunity to take an early lead when they were awarded a penalty in the x minute after a foul by McCafferty on Waterworth, but Miskelly made a fine save from the big Glens striker to keep the score at nil each.  However, the relief was short lived as Waterworth made amends in the 23rd minute when he rifled home from 20 yards past Miskelly.  Back came the Ports and Conor McCluskey equalised when he found the net with his first goal for the club with a crisp low drive from the right corner of the Glentoran box which flew past Morris in the home goals.

The second half was almost total control by the Port with Clarke, McCabe and McCafferty holding the centrestage, and it was the Ports who took the lead in bizarre fashion when a drive from McCafferty cannoned off Morris and hit the head of Colin Nixon and into the back of the net.  Whilst the goal may have been a fluke, theres no doubting the Ports deserved it on the balance of play.

With the clock winding down, Glentoran went for broke and threw on two forwards and pushed for the equaliser.   The gamble paid off as Boyce scuffed a volley past a stranded Miskelly in the 90th minute.
