Dungannon Swifts 0 Portadown 3

Dungannon Swifts–Portadown

0 - 3

Kevin Braniff stole the show at  Stangmore Park today with a sublime second half display which netted him 2 goals and a third controversially ruled out even though it had clearly crossed the line when keeper Niall Morgan palmed it out.

Tim Mouncey opened the scoring shortly before half-time with a close range header.  Up until that goal, there was little between the sides and even less to give the large crowd anything to cheer about.  However the second half was a much better affair with Dungannon pushing forward they left gaps at the back which Braniff and Tomelty exploited to the full.  Tomelty was the provider for Braniffs first goal in the 74th minute with a fine pull back from the goal line which the inrushing Braniff stroked home from 6 yards.  Braniff then had a goal ruled out when he bundled the ball over the line only to see Morgan push the ball out from behind the line.  Unfortunatley neither referee Brian Turkington nor his assistants saw the ball cross the line and they ignored the appeals from Braniff and his teammates.   Braniff had the last laugh however as he scored his second in the 90th minute after bursting through the centre of the Dungannon defence and cooly chipping the ball over the advancing Morgan and into the gaping net.
