Glenavon 0 Portadown 2

Glenavon–Portadown

0 - 2

Matthew Tipton was the hero once again as Portadown got back to winning ways with a hard fought victory over mid-Ulster rivals Glenavon today.  The first half was a dogged affair with both sides battling to take control.  Portadown struggled to find any sort of rhythm as the homeside fought for every ball and disrupted the Ports attack.  Ultimately a mistake cost Glenavon the first goal on 33 mins when Matthew Tipton capitalised on a poor backpass by Shannon to clip the ball past Coleman.

Tipton doubled the lead 2 mins before the break when he scored a penalty after Redman had been fouled by Shannon in the box.

The second half saw the Ports take control of midfield where Shane McCabe was outstanding.  He fought for every ball, covered every blade of grass and went in where it hurts.   A superb controlled display by the wee man and one which rightly earned him praise from his manager.  Matthew Tipton was unlucky not to get his hat trick, but he went close on two occasions, only to be denied by the woodwork and the heroics of Andy Coleman in the Glenavon goals.

The game finished 2-nil to the Ports and they strengthen their second place in the table with Ballymena the visitors to Shamrock Park next Saturday.
