Linfield–Portadown
2 - 0
Even though Portadown lost today, they surely must be asking themselves how they didn’t get at least a point from this game. The Ports more than matched Linfield in crucial areas, but didn’t get the rub of the green or the refereeing decisions at times when it mattered. McCafferty was outstanding in midfield and the two central defenders Ramsey and Gartland were as solid as a rock in the central defense. Braniff and Tipton worked hard against a resolute blues defense, but couldn’t find the net when the opportunities arose. Jim Ervin scored for the blues in the 25th minute with an opportunist goal.
Braniff, Tipton Gartland and Mackle all had chances for the Ports during the first half with Linfield on the ropes at times during the last 20 minutes especially. Despite the pressure, the Ports couldn’t find a way through to goal and were punished for their earlier misses by Garrett who slotted past Miskelly 10 minutes from time to seal the victory.
