Portadown 3 Carrick Rangers 0

Portadown–Carrick Rangers

3 - 0

Goals from Kevin Braniff, Matty Tipton and Brian Gartland saw off Carrick Rangers from Shamrock Park this afternoon as Portadown kept up the pressure on Linfield at the top of the Carling Premier League table.  The Ports controlled the game and played some neat football throughout the 90 mins with McCafferty and Braniff running the show in the middle of the park, ably assisted by Tomelty, Mouncey and Mackle.

Carrick struggled to match the classy Ports but did come close on a number of occasions as they counter attacked when the Ports had been pushing forward in search of more goals.  Gartland opened the scoring in the 16th min as he slid the ball home at the back post .  Tipton doubled the score on 23 minutes when he curled a shot into the top corner of the Carrick net from the edge of the box.  Braniff capped off a fine perfomance with another beauty in the 59th minute when he curled an unstoppable shot past the Carrick keepr from 20yards out.
