Portadown 1 Glenavon 0

Portadown–Glenavon

1 - 0

Matthew Tipton bagged another important goal as the Ports edged out a dogged Glenavon side in a fiercely contested mid-Ulster derby at Shamrock Park tonight.  Tipton pounced on a loose ball spilled by Glenavon Keeper Andy Coleman and fired the ball past the helpless keeper in the 48th minute.   The Ports lost Wes Boyle through injury and his replacement, Conor McCloskey was only on the field a matter of minutes when he was taken down from behind by former Ports player Peter McCann as he raced though on goal.  The unlucky player was stretchered off and had to go to hospital with suspected ankle ligament damage.

The Ports brought on Neil McCafferty as a replacement, but lost their composure and their shape allowing Glenavon to come into the game more in the last 25 minutes.  Miskimmin was guilty of some wasted opportunities as was young winger David Magee as Glenavon created chances.  However despite going close, they couldn’t penitrate the makeshift home defense in which Chris Ramsey was outstanding and the Ports held out for a vital win which puts them top of the league.
