Portadown–Newry City
0 - 2
Portadowns unbeaten run of friendlies ended today with a 2-nil home defeat at the hands of a much changed Newry City team. The Ports looked out of sorts against a well organised Newry team who gave nothing away at the back and always looked dangerous on the counter-attack. Newry were well guided by a host of ex-Ports stars which included manager Pat McGibbon, Mickey Keenan, Raymond Byrne and Robert Casey. The visitors were well worth the victory as the Ports struggled to find any sort of cutting edge up front with the final ball rarely finding the intended target.
With the Premier League only a week away, manager Ronnie McFall will be hoping the players can re-discover their early pre-season form as a good start is vital if the Ports are to mount any sort of challenge to the Belfast clubs this season.
