Portadown–Glenavon
2 - 0
Portadown took the spoils against Glenavon this evening in the Walter McElroy Testimonial game, coming through 2-nil winners in a fiercely contested friendly. This game had everything, with referee Alistair Burns under pressure at times with some over competitive challenges going in from both sides. Players from both teams were substituted on the orders of the ref in order to cool tempers and take the sting out of some of the action as things threatened to boil over at times. Not that this was a dirty game, but it certainly was as competitive a friendly as you’d wish to see and the fans that turned up tonight were well entertained.
Ports new boy Jamie Tomelty netted the first goal midway through the first half after good work from Braniff. Sean Mackle sealed the victory in the second half after sprinting unto a through ball slicing through the heart of the static Glenavon defense to slot the ball past Davy O’Hare.
All in all a fitting tribute to the wee man from Ahorey who has tended the playing surface for over 35 years.
